May is Over! June’s TBR!

May was aMAYzing.

When you find the doggo at the party.

Pun absolutely intended. I finished nearly all of my TBR pile, even though it needed to be edited a bit due to some text issues…..I will get to Shantaram someday!! I swear to it! Here’s a quick update on my month’s stats:

Books finished: 4!!
So proud of this amount! I know some of you will probably scoff, but that is a solid number of books for me in a month’s time!

Pages read in May: 1421
This month, I’m determined to hit 2000!

Hours read: ~24!! (I estimated this from my Bookout app!!)
My reading stats for the month were great. I mean, I spent nearly an entire day reading! I could’ve definitely done some more, but I’m not going to be too hard on myself. It was a crazy month at work too! I am a nighttime reader mostly. I think it goes hand in hand with my insomnia; I end up staying awake far too late reading occasionally. Oopsies!

Books I finished in May:

  • Revival by Stephen King
  • A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
  • Congo by Michael Crichton
  • The Werewolf of Bamberg by Oliver Potzsch

I was so excited to finish Bamberg! I definitely took way too much time getting there.

My favorite book this month:
A Man Called Ove, without a doubt or hesitation. Ove is just a spectacular read. I can’t say enough about how much I loved this story. My husband and I are planning a date night in to watch the movie (it has great reviews!). I’m going to cry the entire movie just like I did in the book. I know it.

So, what do I read in June?

I spent probably twenty minutes shuffling through my bookshelf this morning. What the heck am I in the mood for in June? I must toss in a horror read every month. Absolute. Must. I think it levels me a bit, especially after I dive into emotional reads… But I also think I need to continue committing to books that fall outside of my go-to genres (Horror, Historical Fiction). Here are the five books I picked for June:

The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
This is probably my most anticipated read. My husband hasn’t stopped hassling me about it; he’s watching the Hulu series AND listening to it at the same time. I’m a little nervous, since I think this book touches on the political climate currently, that’s just my opinion though…

Bird Box by Josh Malerman
This book keeps popping up on Horror TBR piles and news articles. I don’t think I have read a bad review of it. I’m pretty sure it’s ranked on top 10 scariest lists every Halloween.

Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonegutt Jr.
I bought this book on a whim. It’s been sitting on my Kindle for months. I’m just going to do it. I’m not even sure what it is about, but I think it’s a cult-classicish read.

ANNNNND:

It by Stephen King
YES, I AM FINALLY REREADING IT! I was scrolling through Litsy and they are doing June/ July buddy read! This felt like a sign. I immediately bought the book and I am BEYOND excited. The last time I picked up this bad boy was in High School! I actually can’t wait to experience this story again. I’m just going to have a real hard time of cutting myself off each week to stay along with the buddy read!

Ok, so I didn’t do the best job of branching out of my usuals this month. In my defense, I am trying to get a handle on my TBR bookshelf….I know, it’s a bookshelf. Speaking of TBR pile getting smaller: My Congo review will be up either Friday or Tuesday. It’s that chaotic end of the month time for me!

This Month was full of so many fun things: a cat’s 16th birthday party, a wild weekend in Los Angeles, and lots of adventures (both in and out of a book!!). I can’t wait to see what the new month brings!! Oh yeah, and Vegas this weekend!!
